Aftercare Advice

How to look after your extensions.

Looking after your extensions is vital to keeping them looking healthy and new as long as possible. Here's some hints and tips on what to do and what not to do...

  •  Brush your hair before washing to prevent it becoming tangled.

  • Use a good hair mask once a week.

  • Always wash hair in an upright position and never tip your head over the bath to wash, keep the water flowing downwards in the direction the hair falls.

  • Use specialist hair extension shampoo, conditioner and styling products.

  • Do not rub your hair with shampoo or towels. Squeeze shampoo through the hair with as little rubbing as possible.

  • When conditioning your hair only apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair. Avoid the roots and bonds coming into contact with any conditioner. The same applies to hot/cold oils, conditioning treatments, serums or any other oil based/silicone hair products as they can cause the bonds to slip.

  • Do not leave hair to dry naturally.

  • Blow dry your hair, do not allow hair to dry naturally.

  • Use only extension friendly hair brushes. Bristle type brushes/Tangle teasers are ideal. No bobble ended bristles or round barrel brushes as they can forcefully remove the bonds. Brushes are available from me.

  • Do not brush between the root and bonds as this can cause matting, instead gently separate the bonds with your fingers.

  • A heat protection spray is recommended when heat styling to prevent damage and keep extensions looking gorgeous for longer.

  • Always attend scheduled maintenance appointments.

  • Tie hair up into a loose ponytail, braid or bun for sleeping.

  • If you have fusion bonds/tapes you will not be able to wash your hair for 48 hours after fitting. This gives the bonds time to set.

  • TOP TIP!! Styling your extensions is important in order for them to look their best and blend well. We recommend blowdrying whist brushing to encorage the hair to harmonise with your own and then straightening (particularly the top layer of your own hair) before curling or waving. We do not recommend allowing hair to dry naturally as it can cause natural hair to become wavy and frizzy which prevents the extensions blending as seamlessly. I do offer a blowdry and style service where i can also show you how to style your extensions.
